About Finally Farm Paints

Finally Farm Paints is a small, family-owned and operated horse breeding business.  Our goal is to produce world class APHA performance horses, emphasizing the disciplines of reining, working cowhorse, cutting and roping.  We are building a fantastic broodmare band, and breeding to top stallions.  We produce athletic APHA performance horses, with a pleasant dispositions and beautiful color.  Our babies are handled from birth, and trained to lead, back, give to pressure, and lift up feet by the time they are a month old.  Our early training and handling ensures that these horses will be easily started under saddle with little fuss and stress.  They are turned out in a large pasture, with lots of opportunity to run and to develop their bodies.  Our babies are given the best of care and opportunities; we send them to top trainers, and strive to sell to show homes.  If you are interested in a prospect, or in our future breeding plans, we would be happy to talk with you.

About the Owners

The owners of Finally Farm are Laura Lindstrand and Zack Hemond.  We are originally from the Midwest and were married in 1997.  We moved to Washington in 1998 to pursue the outdoor lifestyle that Washington’s mountains and water provide.  After about four years of saving and searching, and wishing for a home and land to call our own, we were finally able to buy a farm in 2001.  We named it “Finally Farm”.

We are both responsible for daily care of breeding stock and foals.

Laura graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1991, then graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1994.  She has been involved with and owned horses for 30 years.  Laura has practiced law, run her own consulting business for two years, worked with battered and abused women, and now is employed by the State of Washington. Laura is responsible for overseeing Finally Farm’s entire operation.  She manages the barn as well as the breeding program.  Laura is currently a member of the APHA, Washington State Paint Horse Club (2007 - 2008 Board of Directors), and the NRHA.

Zack graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology in 1992.  He returned to Michigan State University to obtain a teaching certificate in 1994.  Zack brings nine years of horse ownership and stable management experience, as well as knowledge of genetics and physiology.  Zack works as a high school science teacher for the Clover Park School District.  Zack also has a background in sales, marketing, computer technology, and customer service.  He provides technical advice regarding horse breeding and genetics.  Zack is currently the President of the Washington State Paint Horse Club, and was the show manager in 2008.  He also comes in handy when lifting those 100 pound bales of alfalfa becomes necessary!

When not working on the farm, we enjoy hiking, camping, and spending time with our Labrador Retrievers and Blue Heeler cross.  We are foster parents for homeless animals from PAWS.

About the Farm

Finally Farm Paints is located in Matlock, Washington, in Mason County.  Finally Farm is close to Shelton, as well as to Elma and Montesano in Grays Harbor County, and is an easy drive to the state capital, Olympia.  Finally Farm is on a private, dead-end road, and has a quiet, country setting.  There are four cleared acres of pasture.  We live on-site.

Finally Farm has a brand new eight stall barn.  The stalls are all 12 by 12 and have rubber mats.  The barn aisle is concrete, and is complete with cross ties for grooming and tacking, halter hooks, and a place to hang horse blankets.  There is a feed room, as well as a tack room.  The barn is airy, bright and cheerful.  After of a year of research, we designed the barn ourselves, with horse health and comfort the top priority.

The property is fenced and cross-fenced.  The horse pasture has brand new horse fencing, made up of non-climb wire horse fence, wooden posts, and a top wood rail.  The property is surrounded by tall fir trees which provide privacy, and has a view of the Olympic Mountains.  It is situated next to timberland, which has logging trails that are used for horseback riding.  It is a horse-friendly neighborhood, as many of the neighbors also have horses.
